Inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale, Hans Abrahamsen composed his opera The Snow Queen to premiere at the Royal Danish Opera in 2019. The story is one of innocence lost and the love of siblings, guiding each other on into adulthood. Abrahamsen’s ethereal music captures the icy beauty of The Snow Queen’s world and somehow both warms and pierces the heart all at once. The siblings Gerda and Kay will be sung by Mari Eriksmoen and Rachael Wilson, the Grandmother will be Helena Rasker, and Mr. Carico will appear as the Snow Queen, the Reindeer, and the Clock. The Radio Filharmonisch Orkest will be led by Kent Nagano in the main hall of the Royal Concertgebouw.
