Mark-Anthony Turnage’s first opera, Greek, adapted from Steven Berkoff’s play of the same title, takes the story of Oedipus Rex and smashes it violently into the East End of London in the 1980s. The opera is at times angry, grotesque, hilarious, and beautiful. Vibrant young director Pinar Karabulut takes on the stage direction in the parking garage of the Deutsche Oper Berlin for what is sure to be an evening of challenging yet rewarding musical theater. The quartet of singers playing all the different roles will be Dean Murphy, Heidi Stober, Rebecca Jo Loeb , and Seth Carico, and Yi-Chen Lin will be leading it all from the podium.
